Mending Hearts & Connecting Families

Our passion is supporting parents!

Our Mission

Mending Hearts Family Counseling Center, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a parenting enrichment community to support parents of children with special needs, especially behavioral challenges that do not respond to traditional parenting.

We know the struggles of raising strong willed children and can teach parents the principles of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to bring peace and warmth back to their everyday interactions with their children again.

We have a special "heart" for adoptive and foster families but all families are welcome.

We offer free Parent Support Workshops, free referral services, and are excited to launch our new training program for parent coaches, therapists, and physicians as a PC-CARE Global training agency certified by UC Davis Children's Hospital (pending June 2023).

Researched, Practical Therapeutic Techniques for Parents

All of our services are based on or built around the Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) model. Over 40 years of research and 100’s of studies have shown that in as little as 14 sessions, PCIT can radically transform disruptive behaviors in children ages 1-10 and restore a sense of calm and joy to parents in their every day interactions with their children.

In one study, PCIT was even shown to be more effective than play therapy and even stimulant medication.

Our Vision

Our expansion plans include:

  • In-home Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

  • Other art and research based psychotherapies

  • Support groups to further fortify families receiving PCIT

  • Research and publication

  • A therapist training program

  • Community partnerships to increase recruitment and training of foster and adoptive parents
